    DeSales University is searching for an instructional designer to be part of the Center for Educational Resources and Technology (CERT) team. The position is a full-time job that is on the DeSales campus in Center Valley PA.

    Position Description

    The Instructional Designer consults with faculty to help faculty members design effective technology-enhanced courses, especially online and hybrid courses. The Instructional Designer develops multi-media instructional assets, learning objects, and training resources for use in courses taught by DeSales faculty or in CERT training materials. Under the direction of the Director of Instructional Design & Technology and as a part of the CERT team, the Instructional Designer designs processes, procedures, and training programs to improve the practice of teaching with technology at the university. In addition, the Instructional Designer provides general support and assistance to the faculty in order to address online and classroom instructional technology issues and problems.

    As backup to other CERT staff, the Instructional Designer is expected to respond to classroom technology emergencies as necessary. This task involves going to the affected classroom to troubleshoot technology issues.


    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Design, Communication, or related field required. Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Systems, Learning Sciences or related field preferred
    • At least 3 years of experience in higher education including adult/continuing education as an Instructional Designer or in a related occupation preferred
    • Experience with instructional design tools (Adobe Captivate/Storyline, iSping Suite, Softchalk Cloud, etc) preferred
    • In-depth knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models preferred
    • Lesson and curriculum planning skills
    • Ability to work independently and be available for occasional nights or weekends
    • Sensitive to issues of ethnicity, disability and diversity
    • Dedicated to the mission of a small, Catholic, liberal arts institution
